CHAPTER 4: Land and Water in the Northeast
The first region of the United States we will be exploring is the Northeast. In the first chapter of this unit, we will identify the landforms and resources of this beautiful region. We will also consider the businesses that allow people to take advantage of these resources, and begin to think about conservation and pollution prevention.

CHAPTER 5: People of the Northeast
The Northeast region not only has beautiful natural features and rich natural resources; it also has a long, interesting history. In this chapter, students will learn how the people who have lived in the Northeast have shaped its wonderful history...and how we might continue to do so today.
CHAPTER 6: The Land of the Southeast
After the Northeast, the Southeast was the first region to be explored and colonized by the European powers. However, while the Northeast belonged almost exclusively to Britain, the Southeast has a rich history of European influences, including the Spanish, the French, and eventually the British. In this chapter, students will identify the predominant geographical features of this region. They will also learn about its resources and wildlife, and the things that threaten them.

CHAPTER 7: People and Events That Shaped the Southeast
After examining the geography and resources of the Southeast, we will now take a closer look at the people and events that have impacted this region, and the rest of the country. During the American Civil War, the states of the Southeast tried to secede from the US and create a new nation. Although they were brought back into the US, we will learn about the difficulties they faced during the Reconstruction, and how race relations affected the development of the Southeast.

CHAPTER 8: Water and Land of the Midwest
In this unit, we will explore our own region of the United States: the Midwest! Known as "the breadbasket" of the U.S., we will learn about the interesting geography: the Great Lakes, the Badlands, and the ever important farmland of the region. We will also identify animals that live in this region, as well as examine how earth's systems affect and shape the land, such as land and water erosion.

CHAPTER 9: People of the Midwest
The Midwest had been home to many, many people before we came along. From the Ojibwa who lived here before French settlement to the diverse immigrant groups that live here today, in this unit we will be learning about Midwestern people. From the fur trade to drought and beyond, students will discover and analyze how different influences over the years have affected the Midwest, and how they continue to affect them today.

Illinois Unit I: History of the Illinois
In this unit, we will be focusing on the state of Illinois and which events led up to it becoming a state. Although we will be covering a long of span of time, from the Paleo-Indians to admittance into the US, many of the topics will be familiar to students from their study of the Midwest: Woodland and Mississipian Indians, French Fur trade, and British colonization.
